Dear students and parents,
Welcome back to another school year. I hope you enjoyed an outstanding summer vacation. We will soon be back to our regular routines and activities, this year after Labour Day for the first time in a number of years.
Recently, I have been reminded of the critical importance of setting goals and doing what we can to surpass those goals; whether for an assignment, exam or final grade. I expect your teachers to do what they can to help you surpass the goals you set for yourself. It is about everyone learning together. Teachers, students and parents can work together to help students set realistic goals. And parents and teachers, by working together, can actively support our students to surpass such goals and yet be realistic.
In other words, how we improve is to not accept our current best, but to set a new best. This is true of athletics, fine arts, academics or any other activity we might be involved in. The exciting part of a new school year is that we get a fresh start on our learning activities for the year. The start of a new school year and graduation ceremonies are two of my favorite times of the year. My dream would be to have ALL the grade 12 students who start the year cross the stage at their graduation ceremony near the end of the year.
Whether you are a young child on your very first day of school, a student who is projected to graduate this year, a family member who supports your children or any other student attending one of our 34 school sites, I would like to wish you the most successful year ever, filled with fun and learning.
