Update: Hold and Secure at Eagle Butte High School and Beyond Walls Outreach School
At 7:45 this morning, Prairie Rose School Division officials were notified about a text message threat that had been sent to select students at Eagle Butte and McCoy High schools.
As students were already on-route to the school, a decision was made to keep the students at Eagle Butte School under the Hold and Secure protocol. Hold and Secure means that the school operates as usual inside the walls of the school. All outside access is carefully monitored and restricted and field trips are cancelled. As an extra precaution, Redcliff RCMP agreed to keep a presence at the school throughout the day and assist with the implementation of the Hold and Secure protocol. At Beyond Walls Outreach School, located in the city of Medicine Hat, Hold and Secure was also initiated as a precautionary measure.
In regards to school tomorrow, Eagle Butte High School and Beyond Walls Outreach School will operate as normal. This decision was made in collaboration with the city of school divisions and police services in Medicine Hat. This means all buses will run and all classes will be in session. The school division has been advised that the RCMP will continue to provide a presence at Eagle Butte High School as a precaution. All other Prairie Rose schools will also be open. The school division respects the parents’ right to make the final decision regarding attendance at school tomorrow.
The school division continues to be in regular contact with the RCMP and will be notified if there is any new information in the investigation. Notifications will be shared with parents via the division/school website and social media.
We appreciate your understanding in this matter.
